COSHH ASSESSMENT

Regulation 6 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2005 (COSHH) charges employers where their employees may be exposed to a Substance Hazardous to Health (SHH) to -

  • make a suitable and sufficient assessment of health risks and the necessary precautions
  • review the assessment regularly and immediately following work changes, and if suspected of being no longer valid or the results of monitoring show it to be necessary. The assessment should be revised accordingly

Employers (with more than 5 employees) shall record the significant findings of the risk assessment and the steps taken to control exposure.

Independent Health and Safety Advice (IHASA) can perform COSHH risk assessments using existing internal proforma or can generate, in partnership with the organisation, a form of assessment most useful to their undertaking.

Following the COSHH risk assessment, it is very important that review of the assessment is maintained. There will be no obligation on you to commission the services of IHASA to assist in this periodic review, but all services associated with any recommendations will be available at very competitive rates. Also, IHASA can provide a 'competent person' retainer service with telephone or e-mail support if required.
